DandeLiion delivers embedded full-pack electrochemical model for European automotive manufacturer

DandeLiion has recently completed a bespoke development project for a major European automotive manufacturer, working in collaboration with About:Energy to bring advanced physics-based battery modelling directly onto production-relevant embedded hardware.

The project required the development of custom software capable of running an electrochemical model of an entire battery pack on customer-specific hardware. The technical constraints were particularly demanding, combining strict real-time performance and reliability requirements with a non-standard processor architecture and very limited available memory. Despite these restrictions, the required full-pack model performance was successfully achieved.

The resulting software enables developments like on-board fast-charging prediction, where accurate knowledge of the internal electrochemical state of the cells can provide capabilities beyond those available from conventional phenomenological battery models (such as ECM). By making detailed physics-based modelling practical within an embedded environment, DandeLiion enables more accurate prediction and optimisation of battery behaviour to extend battery lifetime.

This approach creates opportunities to improve charging performance, make better use of the available battery capability, and reduce system costs, while demonstrating that advanced electrochemical models can be deployed at full-pack scale on highly resource-constrained automotive hardware.
